Zell am Must See: the summer highlights in Zell am See-Kaprun

In Zell am See-Kaprun all those elements come together that make up the typical Austrian postcard - glaciers, mountains and lakes. And just as diverse are the sports and recreational activities in the region. What makes Zell am See-Kaprun so diverse are the fantastic summit panoramas of the Kitzsteinhorn, Schmittenhöhe and Maiskogel, the crystal clear waters of Lake Zell; and the adrenaline you get paragliding, hang-gliding and rock climbing. The following highlights should not be missed in summer.

Since June 2017, the highest Via Ferrata on a dam is located on the Kaprun high mountain reservoirs. Climbing enthusiasts experience the finest adrenaline kicks and can enjoy themselves on exceptional climbing pieces. If there is enough time, one’s view should definitely wander from the Via Ferrata to the surrounding mountain panorama, where the Hohe Tauern National Park also stretches out below the climbers. Those who cannot get enough of climbing have the possibility to scramble up the rock of three additional climbing walls of varying difficulty in the Climbing Arena Höhenburg. Additional courses and guided climbing tours are offered for beginners and enthusiasts.

Learn yodelling in Zell am See-Kaprun
For two months, Yodelling enthusiasts and trainees meet in the Yodel School of Thomas Reitsamer. To ensure that it is as authentic as possible, the Yodelling workshops are held against a magnificent mountain backdrop on the Schmittenhöhe. On the program are, among other things, different vocal types, breathing techniques and the history of Yodelling. In summer you can hear Jodelos, Juchitzer and Jucheis on the Schmittenhöhe.  Participants can practice the points learned and Yodel a loud echo in the mountains of the region.

Mountain herbs with spicy workshops
We are staying on the Schmittenhöhe as from there on some dates in summer a herb walk will take place. This "Herb Witches Walk", on which healing ingredients are collected, crosses the high Alpine promenade to the Sonnkogel. The collected herbs are then used in the creation of tinctures and ointments. Of course, the motto here is "Do It Yourself" because the collected herbs are processed by hand after a herbal snack in the Restaurant Sonnkogel. Interested participants, who have no time on any of these dates, can also follow in the footsteps of herb witches themselves outside of these days.

The Kitzsteinhorn Explorer Tour
Once through all four climatic zones, please! What might sound odd is within the framework of the Kitzsteinhorn Explorer Tour absolutely possible. Between July and September, curious explorers can head up from the valley into the glacier world at over 3,000 metres. They are accompanied by a National Park Ranger who will pass on interesting facts about the Kitzsteinhorn - such as how glacial ice is formed, and where Golden Eagles and Bearded Vultures are at home. On a tour of the Kitzsteinhorn Mountain, a detour to the panorama platform "Top of Salzburg" should not be missed. At 3,029 metres, a breath-taking view of the unspoilt National Park and to the highest summits in Austria extends below the participants.

Ice-cold activities in the ICE ARENA
Those looking to cool off on hot summer days are in the right place with the ICE ARENA on the Kitzsteinhorn. At over 3,000 metres, icy experiences are available in this special location with slides, snow beaches and magic carpets being very popular with children. Adults too, get their money’s worth in the ICE ARENA. Swinging on sliding devices, sliding through the snow and enjoying a refreshing drink against the beautiful backdrop of the National Park are real highlights. This is an adventure of a special kind, which is unique in Austria
