Ferienregion Nationalpark Hohe Tauern
At 1,836 km², the Hohe Tauern National Park is the largest national park in the Alps. Its unique and original alpine nature and cultural landscape extends from approximately 1,000m above sea level up on to the summit of the Grossglockner at 3,798m. It is a unique holiday region with 19 locations in the South of Salzburgland. The backdrop of 266 peaks, 551 mountain lakes and 342 glaciers attracts and captivates nature lovers throughout the year.
The majestic Eagle draws his circles, the cool wind stirs from the Pasterzen glacier, the Krimmler waterfalls rush loudly down over hundreds of meters, and it is perfectly quiet in the winter snow-covered valleys of the National Park. In the holiday region Hohe Tauern National Park with its 19 national park locations, you are close to powerful elemental forces and living traditions throughout the whole year.
On a hike from the valley up into the glacier-crowned summit region, the experience is one such as a trip to the Arctic – with all climate zones from Central Europe to the Polar region. It provides an unforgettable experience especially in summer – this high mountain range with its peaks over 3,000m, its glaciers, glacial streams, waterfalls, mountain lakes, Alpine grasslands and its century’s old maintained pastures. Whether it’s for a guided hike with the Park Rangers, a road trip via the Großglockner High Alpine road, mountain biking, a culinary tour from hut to hut in summer or a snow-shoe tour through unspoilt winter landscapes, a holiday in the Hohe Tauern National Park is a pleasure for all the senses.
National Park Worlds
The National Park Worlds in Mittersil open up terrific insights into the flora and fauna of the Hohe Tauern National Park using a spectacular exhibition concept. Here applies: touching and interacting allowed. For example, children can crawl through marmot tunnels or test themselves on the boulder wall with the climbing skills of an Ibex. Guided tours with National Park Rangers are available on request. The 360° Panorama Cinema in the Hohe Tauern National Park is a world novelty. With a canvas of 56 metres circumference you feel transported right into nature!
National Park Summer Card Mobil
With the new National Park Summer Card Mobil, tourists in the Hohe Tauern National Park can, during the summer season, enjoy more than 60 “all inclusive” and discounted services. When presenting a valid National Park Summer Card, guests receive daily free (from all-inclusive service partners) or reduced price offers during the duration of their stay. These are valid for numerous mountain railways, excursion destinations, outdoor activities, attractions, museums, National Park exhibitions, swimming pools and much more in the whole holiday region of the Hohe Tauern National Park. Additionally, this card enables you to use the local public transport for free along with free entry into the “Großglockner Hochalpenstraße” Adventure World and also a weekly ticket for the Gerlos Alpine Street.
Today, more than 1000 km (!) of hiking trails have been created and marked. Hiking and mountain guides, National Park rangers, an alpine school, and special National Park Info Points in almost every village help the alpine novice become an expert. The best way to discover the natural and cultural specialties is by means of especially created instruction and experience trails. All of them can be used alone and, of course, free of charge: We do, however, recommend guided tours for an intensive natural experience (offered by our rangers and included in holiday packages).
The sportive possibilities in the region are impressive, too. In addition to golfing, you can enjoy riding, paragliding, bicycling, playing tennis and squash, mountain biking, fishing, crossbow shooting, swimming, sailing, and surfing ... or you could simply lie down in a meadow and enjoy life.
Golf Alpin recommends the most beautiful destinations for foodie golfers.
There are 20 towns which belong to the Hohe Tauern National Park region. 250 glaciers and 266 summits are waiting to be explored here, along with 551 lakes to cool off.
